About the Department
The Department of Mass Communication at Plateau State University stands among the institution’s pioneer programmes, reinforcing Plateau State’s reputation as a leading media production centre in Nigeria. From its first cohort of 16 students in the 2009/2010 session and its maiden graduating class in 2014, the department has produced over 1,000 graduates now excelling across the media and communication industry. Today it trains skilled professionals through a blended learning model and has grown to offer postgraduate study, including PGD, M.Sc, and PhD programmes in Mass Communication.

About the Head of Department
Adeyanju Apejoye is a Senior Lecturer and currently the Head of the Department. His research interests focus on journalism, digital media and the intersection between democracy and political communication, particularly in the Global South and media development. He received a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Salford, United Kingdom. He has expertise in mixed-methods research, including applying software for qualitative and quantitative data analysis. He has published in journals and presented journalism and media studies papers at international conferences.
Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements — BSc. Mass Communication
UTME Entry (4-Year)
Admission through UTME leads to the four-year programme. Candidates need five SSCE credits — including Mathematics, English Language, Literature in English, and two other Arts or Social Science subjects — obtained in not more than two sittings.
Direct Entry (3-Year)
Direct Entry leads to the three-year programme. Applicants need a National Diploma (Lower Credit or above) in Mass Communication or a related field, two A-Level passes, NCE passes in relevant subjects, or IJMB passes, along with the same SSCE credit requirements.
Admission Options
Entry into the B.Sc. Mass Communication programme is available through both 100 Level (UTME) Admissions and Direct Entry Admissions.
