
Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has officially matriculated 4,715 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, encouraging them to embrace purposefulness, focus, and dedication in their academic pursuits.
Speaking to the new students following the matriculation oath ceremony at the University’s 600-capacity lecture theater, Vice-Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best congratulated the freshers on their admission, noting the highly competitive selection process.
Professor Best revealed that 13,234 candidates applied to the University, with only 4,715 students gaining admission across its 12 faculties. He emphasized the diversity of the new cohort, highlighting that they represent 33 of Nigeria’s 36 states and 234 local government areas, showcasing the University’s increasing national appeal.
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor also noted significant institutional achievements from 2024 to the present, including the successful expansion of academic programs approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the enhancement of the University’s academic infrastructure.
He announced plans for future growth, stating, “For the 2026/27 academic session, we intend to establish the Faculties of Communication and Computing, along with new programs in Allied Health Sciences, Education, and Quantity Surveying.”
Professor Best urged the matriculating students to remain focused, purposeful, and disciplined, emphasizing that regular attendance and academic seriousness are key to their success at the University.
Prior to the matriculation, the University organized an orientation program where students were informed about security awareness, registration procedures, academic policies, counseling, and the dangers of examination malpractice.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new students to fully utilize the conducive learning environment and expanding academic opportunities at PLASU as they embark on their higher education journey.
