PLASU SENATE FINALISES NEW DATES FOR 8TH AND 9TH CONVOCATION CEREMONIES

The Senate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has formally approved 30th and 31st January 2026 as the new dates for the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremony. During a special session, the Senate ratified the management’s decision to postpone the event from its initial dates of 28th and 29th November 2025, following discussions at the 97th regular meeting held on 13th October.

The pre-convocation lecture is now scheduled for 30th January 2026, with the main convocation ceremony following on 31st January 2026.

 The Senate session also discussed the implementation of the proposed academic calendar for the 2025/2026 session, which had been adopted during the 97th regular meeting with  Key dates in the calendar to include the commencement of the First Semester which officially started on Monday, 29th September 2025, with online registration  for new students starting from Monday, 6th October 2025, marking the start of online registration for returning students with the  end of normal registration for all students  set for Monday, 13th October 2025.

 All admission processes for new students will conclude by Monday, 3rd November 2025 with  Orientation for fresh students  commencing from Tuesday, 4th November to Thursday, 6th November 2025.

Accordingly Matriculation for fresh students will take place on Friday, 7th November 2025. Due to unforeseen circumstances, including a recent warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), classes are now expected to commence fully on 27th October 2025, as officially approved by the Senate.

The Senate Chairman and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best,  urged strict compliance from faculty members, reiterating his administration’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the university’s academic programmes.   

Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics,Professor Moses Galadima,Professor Best further instructed Senators to ensure that all pending results for students in levels 200–400 are completed and uploaded to the new digital management system within two weeks.

He emphasised  the need for timely completion and upload of  results which are critical for the upcoming accreditation visit scheduled for 2nd November 2025. The  visit according to the chairman of Senate and vice Chancellor of the university Professor Shedrack Best will assess the university’s compliance with new National Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines regarding the digital upload of student transcripts at the end of every semester.
