
The Plateau State University Bokkos has appealed to the Plateau State Government to expedite the processing of pending applications for its land titles. Professor Shedrack Best, the Acting Vice Chancellor made the appeal on Wednesday July 17 to secure the university’s land and enable it to freely carry out infrastructural expansions.
Challenges Faced by the University
During a visit to the university by Barrister Peter Nyam Gai, the State Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, Prof. Best, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Associate Prof. Jurbe Gomos, highlighted challenges faced by the university to include encroachment by previous landowners who claim unpaid compensations and the distortion of the university’s master plan due to these interferences.
Prof. Best drew the attention of the Commissioner to the university’s pending application for titles dating back to 2022 and appealed for expedited action. He also appealed for the government’s intervention in offsetting the pending liabilities to formalize the ownership transfer.
Assurance from the Commissioner
The Commissioner for Lands Survey and Town Planning, Barrister Peter Nyam Gai, assured the University of his Ministry’s readiness to protect the university’s property by releasing all pending titles. He emphasized that his visit was both a fact-finding and proactive mission to ascertain the university’s land challenges with a view to resolving them.
Additionally, he appealed to communities to consider the greater good and keep their promises after donating lands for development.

The Commissioner was later led on a tour of the university’s land by the management, where he further committed to securing the land to pave the way for robust growth and development in the university.
