Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has made an impressive debut at the Nigeria Universities Games Association (NUGA) competition, securing a total of five medals in its very first participation at the games recently hosted by the University of Jos. PLASU finished in the 33rd position among the numerous public and private universities that participated nationwide.

On Monday December 8, PLASU Vice Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best, received the contingent, led by the NUGA Planning Committee Chairman, Professor Ishaya Dashol, in his office. Prof. Best heartily congratulated the athletes for their stellar performance. “To win five medals for the University in your first outing is a fantastic achievement. I am confident that we will win even more in future competitions,” Professor Best said. The Vice Chancellor announced the University’s plan to expedite the completion of the campus stadium complex, including the necessary fencing to safeguard sporting facilities. He confirmed that discussions with the contractor have concluded and work is scheduled to commence shortly.

Professor Best reiterated the University’s commitment to creating opportunities for students and sports enthusiasts within the community to participate and discover hidden talents. He equally highlighted plans to introduce and focus on new areas of exploration, including badminton, hockey, and table tennis. The Vice Chancellor also announced that the University plans to construct a dam in February to facilitate swimming activities.

Professor Ishaya Dashol, Chairman of the Planning Committee, presented the medals won by the participants to the Vice Chancellor, and commended the University Management for the immense support provided to the contingent. The five medals won include two Gold Medals, one silver medal and two Bronze Medals. In a brief address, the University’s Coach, Agwom Ishaya, highlighted specific areas that require attention and improvement to ensure even greater performance in subsequent games.
