The Vice-Chancellor of Plateau State University, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, has extended heartfelt condolences to the University’s Chief Security Officer, Barrister S.D. Mashat, on the passing of his stepmother, the late Mama Celina Michael Matyek.

Professor Best described her death as a profound loss to both her family and the broader university community. He conveyed this message during the funeral service held at the Church of Christ in Nations, L.C.C Tasha Maikarfi, R.C.C Bokkos.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Associate Professor Keziah Y. Ayuba, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the family to find solace in the impactful and exemplary life led by the deceased. Mama Celina Michael Matyek passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the age of 85, and was laid to rest at the family burial ground in Bokkos. The university community stands in solidarity with Barrister Mashat and his family during this time of mourning and prays for strength and comfort for all affected.
