Plateau State University, Bokkos, has activated its campus radio station, broadcasting on 103.3 FM.Speaking during his maiden broadcast, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best, said the station would serve as a platform for information dissemination, education, and entertainment within and beyond the university community
Professor Best explained that the activation of the radio station aligns with the university’s plan to strengthen media and communication studies, adding that the institution intends to unbundle the Mass Communication Department into a Faculty of Media Studies. He also disclosed plans to air programmes in the Butura language, in line with the university’s commitment to promoting the cultural heritage of its host community and discovering talents in the creative and entertainment industries.

The radio house, built in 2005, is located within the Simon Bako Lalong Garden, under the foot of the surrounding hills. Members of the public can tune in via 103.3 FM.
In a related development, the Vice Chancellor inspected the university’s poultry farm, a joint project of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Directorate of Entrepreneurship Development Centre. The Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Hosea Finangwai said the farm operates both deep litter and battery cage systems, noting that 564 layers currently produce about 12 crates of eggs daily. Professor Best assured that the university would expand and properly equip the facility to enhance practical agricultural training. He added that arrangements would be made to sell eggs to staff and students at subsidized rates to promote healthy nutrition.

The Vice Chancellor also announced plans to diversify agricultural production, including the importation of braided cows for dairy production. As part of his engagement, Professor Best also inspected the university’s refurbished ambulance, now fitted with emergency medical equipment to improve health response on campus.
