It was a reunion steeped in pride and shared history as the 1980 set of Mangu Secondary School Old Students paid a courtesy visit to their distinguished alumnus, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, following his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos. The visit served not just as a congratulatory gesture but as a strong affirmation of support for the transformative changes taking place at the university. The Coordinator of the set, John Ladan, in his address, described Professor Best’s appointment by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang as “apt.” Ladan highlighted that the decision was well-timed, noting the remarkable pace of development PLASU has witnessed under Professor Best’s guidance. “Considering the fact that in less than two years, Plateau State University has witnessed considerable transformation, Governor Mutfwang’s choice is perfectly justified,” stated Ladan.

Speaking directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Set Coordinator called on Professor Best to “continue to be a good Ambassador of Mangu Old Students,” reminding him that their alma mater instilled the values of being trailblazers, goal-getters, and achievers. John Ladan added that, “We’re not surprised in your rise to academic stardom, because you have shown it right from our school days.” He also assured Governor Mutfwang of the Mangu old students’ unalloyed support for his administration’s vision for education in the state.

In his heartfelt remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best, expressed deep gratitude to God and his schoolmates for the honour of the celebration, a celebration that reunited him with friends, some of whom he had known since kindergarten.

Professor Best assured the alumni that he would not disappoint them during his stewardship, emphasising that his ultimate vision is to make Plateau State University “best among equals and globally rated.”He used the opportunity to brief his colleagues on the current trajectory of the institution, highlighting the new courses that have recently been introduced alongside many innovations already underway across academics and infrastructure.

Professor Best extended a warm invitation to his schoolmates, calling on them to always keep in touch and look forward to their support, advice, and wise counsel as he works to achieve his lofty vision for PLASU.
