Department Of Political Science
The department of Political Science Plateau State University was created as one of the pioneer departments of the University in 2010/2011 academic session. At its inception, it was under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. However, in 2013/2014 academic session, the department falls under the Faculty of Social Sciences. Following the attainment of full accreditation in 2017/2018 academic session, the department thought it necessary to propose the offering of the following Post-graduate Programmes which was graciously approved by the National University Commission (NUC):

Head of Political Science
Dr Ishaku Bitrus Lere attended University of Jos where he obtained his B.Sc Political Science in 1998. He further his education in the same University and backed M.Sc in Political Economy and Development Studies in 2012. As a professional teacher, he obtained Professional Diploma in Education (PED) in 2009 at College of Education Gindiri (ABU affiliated). The passion for education he attended Universiti Sains Malaysia and obtained PhD in Political Science specializing in Political Economy and Development Studies. He is currently a lecturer with the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Science, Plateau State University Bokkos

Curriculum
Entry Requirements - 100 Level
All applicants for admission into the four-year degree programme should possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE, NECO) or their equivalent with credits in five subjects including English Language, History or Government and Mathematics. Applicant must obtain an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Entry Requirements - Direct entry
Direct entry applicants for the three-year programme in political Science should possess five credit pass in GCE, SSCE, NECO or its equivalent, at least two of which shall be at the Advanced level, provided that subjects are not counted at both levels of the examination. Credit pass at the ordinary level must include English and Mathematics or a credit in IJMB use of English and in IJMB mathematics.
