History of the Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education was officially approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 6th November 2023 to offer full-time academic programmes. This milestone followed the successful resource verification exercise conducted on 4th and 5th October 2023. During the assessment, the University’s physical and academic infrastructure—including the main library, E-Library, faculty offices, lecture halls, and staff strength—were thoroughly evaluated and found satisfactory.
The establishment of the Faculty of Education marks a significant step in the University’s commitment to producing highly qualified and competent educators who will contribute meaningfully to national development. As a center for academic excellence, the faculty aims to promote innovation in teaching, learning, and research in education, with a strong emphasis on practical training and professional development.
Currently, the faculty is structured into three (3) departments and offers six (6) undergraduate degree programmes designed to prepare students for careers in teaching and educational leadership.

Plans are underway to expand academic offerings in the near future, include postgraduate programmes and additional specializations, in line with global trends and the growing demand for qualified educators.
The faculty staff engage in a range of research activities and community service notable among which is the research on and the recording, transcription and translation of folktales, songs, proverbs and riddles from Plateau State tribes conducted by the Department of English Language, the community theatre outreach of the Department of Theatre Arts, all sponsored withTETFund institute based research (IBR) grants. In addition, individual faculty members conduct researches, with some on postdoctoral research outside the country, and a trail of presentation of academic papers at local and international conferences. The vivacity of the staff is reflected in the students, some of whom have won national and international awards.

Rev. Sr.Josephine Marie A. Eke OLE (Ph. D) born at Zonkwa Kaduna State, Nigeria, is a native of Nnarambia Ahiara, Ahiazu Mbaise Imo State, belongs to the Congregation of Our Lady of Fatima Sisters, Jos Plateau State Nigeria, a fluent speaker of Ibo, Hausa, English, and has a good working knowledge and speaker of French. Holds a B.A. Ed French from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and a French experience at the Université/Village du Benin Lome Togo, an Advanced-Certificate in Management Studies (CABS) from Federal Polytechnic Kaduna, an M.Ed. English Education from University of Jos, and a Ph. D English Education (ESP) from University of Jos Nigeria.
She also holds a Diploma in Restorative Justice from Queen’s University School of Religion Kingston, Ontario. Canada. She has wealth of experience in education and served as a School teacher, School Head Teacher, Vice Principal Academics and Principal as well as Administrator at various times, in various schools and places. She has also served as a member of General Council in her Religious Congregation and Education Secretary of Our Lady of Fatima Sisters Jos. For more than a decade (13 years) she served as a Prison Pastoral Care Coordinator and Chaplain in Jos, Kano, Minna and Pankshin.
She held responsibilities in various Dioceses where she worked in Committees and Commissions. She has attended many conferences for Prison Chaplains in and out of Nigeria (Africa, Europe and the Americas). She worked as a volunteer at Collins Bay Institution (CBI); a Federal medium security prison in Kingston, Ontario Canada and at the Correctional Service Toronto Canada (a half way home). She has a passion for Prison ministry and prisoners.
She has published two books on Restorative Justice (RJ) Zehr Howard, a review: a handbook for Prisons and problem solving and Restorative Justice (RJ) Crime of punishment, Karl Menninger: And interpretation, a handbook for legal issues.
To her credit too are four text books; Effectiveness of English for Specific Purposes for Seminarians, Language and activity books written for Play, Nursery and Pre-primary classes, Language and Symbolic Arts: Religious adornments, arts and meaning in the Catholic Church Liturgical as well as many articles in National and International journals including online journals and E-Book. She likes teaching, reading, writing, building and developments. She is currently lecturing at Plateau State University Bokkos Nigeria, and Founding Dean Faculty of Education.

Prospective students can apply through the university’s admissions portal. Ensure you meet the entry requirements and submit all necessary documents during the application window. Candidates must meet the general university requirements with at least five (5) credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, in SSCE/NECO/WASSCE or equivalent. A valid UTME score in relevant subjects is also required. And for student on Direct Entry, Applicants must meet any of the following:
Merit (lower credit) level pass in a relevant diploma (Technical Education) with credit in English.
Two A-level passes in relevant subjects plus three O-level credits.
NCE passes in two major subjects with at least two additional O-level credits.
IJMB passes with three additional O-level credits.
Note: students applying for English Language must have at least a credit in Literature at O’ Level
