The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University Bokkos, Prof. Shedrack Best, has called on students preparing for the national Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) to approach the program with seriousness, discipline, and responsibility.

Speaking at an orientation conference for 300-level students on February 10th, Prof. Best, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Associate Prof. Keziah Ayuba, described SIWES as a vital component of their training that bridges the gap between theory and practice.

“It provides you with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop professional competencies, and cultivate the right work attitude needed for your career,” Prof. Best said.

He commended the SIWES team, lecturers, and industrial partners for their support, which has strengthened the program.ITF SIWES officer, Christopher Audu, outlined the program’s objectives, including bridging the theory-practice gap, exposing students to practical work environments, and establishing student-employer relationships.

Mrs. Bolanle Yusuff, Head of Training at ITF, emphasized the importance of maintaining proper work attitude, discipline, and loyalty, saying, “It’s not just about your studies. What about your morals, attitude, and behavior? We look at all these.” About 1,000 PLASU students attended the 2026 SIWES orientation and are expected to be deployed to industries and institutions for the three-month practical training program.
