Art Education Department
The Department of Arts Education at Plateau State University was officially approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 6th November 2023, following a successful resource verification exercise conducted on 4th and 5th October 2023. The department comprises two units—English Education and Religious Education—offering undergraduate programmes aimed at preparing students for careers in teaching and education. The NUC’s approval was based on the university’s satisfactory academic and physical infrastructure, including the main library, E-library, lecture halls, and staff strength. This development marks a major step in the university’s goal to produce competent educators, with a focus on innovation, research, and professional development.

Mr. Yilteh, Shikbagal Chrysantus was born 19th February, 1985 at Fungle’et-Deomak in Qua’an –Pan L. G.A. of Plateau State. He attained L.E.A. Primary School Fungle’et and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1996. He went to COCIN Salvation Secondary School Shendam and acquired WASSCE in 2009. He gained admission in Federal College of Education Pankshin from 2004-2007 and obtained the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) Mathematics/ Primary Education Studies. Quest for more knowledge, he studied B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics from 2009-2013 and M.Sc (Ed) Mathematics in from 2019 - 2021, both the from University of Jos. In 1st May, 2024, he was appointed by the Vice Chancellor of the University as the Coordinator, Science Education (HOD), Faculty of Education till date.
Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements to the Department (Subject combination for UTME and O-level)
To study English Education at Plateau State University, candidates must have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics at SSCE/GCE/NECO/Grade II or equivalent.
- UTME candidates must meet the university’s general entry requirements with five credit passes, including English and Mathematics, and pass the UTME exam. The programme duration is four years (8 semesters).
Direct Entry candidates must have a relevant diploma (minimum Lower Credit) or two A-Level/NCE passes in relevant subjects, along with required O-Level credits. Candidates with IJMB, Basic Studies, or International Baccalaureate may also be considered. The programme duration is three years (6 semesters).
