Medical laboratory science department

The Medical Laboratory Science programme at Plateau State University began in 2022 with 114 UTME students and is a five-year accredited course. It received NUC approval in February 2023 and was initially staffed by four lecturers, including pioneer HOD Professor Lohya Nimzing. The department benefits from partnerships with top laboratories in Plateau State and is recognized for producing skilled graduates in diagnostics, academia, and biomedical fields.

Curriculum

Programme Outline

Our curriculum is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a variety of careers in the tech industry. The programme covers a wide range of topics, including programming, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and artificial intelligence.

The faculty is available to students through forums, email, and phone calls. Students also have access to a variety of resources, including a state-of-the-art e-library, virtual computer labs, a career center, and a variety of student organisations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

To be admitted into the BMLS programme at Plateau State University, UTME candidates must have five O’Level credits in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, and Mathematics (in not more than two sittings) and a suitable UTME score. Direct Entry candidates must have A-Level or IJMB passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, along with five relevant O’Level credits. Graduates with at least a 2nd Class Lower in related disciplines or holders of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate may also be considered, provided they meet O’Level requirements and JAMB regulations.
