AGRICULTURE ECONOMICS AND EXTENSION

Introduction to Agriculture Economics and Extension

Philosophy

The guiding philosophy of the Department is that ultimately the Nigerian and Plateau farmers in particular would become fully aware, have access to and adopt improved and good agricultural technologies (GAT). With this knowledge the farmers will be better informed to make rational decision for efficient utilization of resources. Hence, the students must be adequately exposed to economic and extension principles, through hands-on best practices in crop production, livestock production, farm management, resource allocation and agricultural marketing to become resourceful agricultural economists and extension agents.

Vision

The vision of the Department is to contribute significantly to increasing agricultural productivity, improving socio-economic status of farmers and enhancing rural development in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

Mission

The overall mission is to produce academically sound and professionally competent graduates in agricultural economics and extension who are able to facilitate increased production and utilization of agricultural raw materials as well as making self-sufficiency in food production.
