
Plateau State University, Bokkos has expressed commitment to environmental conservation and protection of the ecosystem through tree planting that will also serve as wind breaker.
The initiative was adopted since the establishment of the institution which is in line with the master plan of the University.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University, Bokkos, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best reechoed this when he received staff and students of Bethany Christian Academy,Barakin Ladi who visited the institution to plant trees as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Professor Best eulogized the effort of the Bethany Christian Academy for keying into the policies and programmes of the institution, noting that his administration will not take this kind gesture for granted and promised to sustain the culture of tree planting.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Moses Galadima Pyefa, Best explained that his predecessors had worked assiduously in compliance with the United Nations goal and policy which is to ensure the regulation of the climate that has become a nightmare to all mankind as a result of deforestation due to human activity.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, while performing the symbolic planting of trees, adjacent the University’s Chapel in Bokkos, urged staff and students to safeguard the plants as well as ensure they are nurtured to maturity.
Principal, Bethany Christian Academy, Doctor Mrs. Olufumilayo Owolabi, explained that the planting of trees is part of their students’ leadership training which recently held at the school in Barakin Ladi, which expects the students to be proactive in impacting positively to humanity and the environment.
The Leadership training according to Doctor Owolabi is also aimed at equiping students on how they can be global leaders as well as providing solution to societal issues, was championed by International Leadership Foundation, a department under Great Commission Movement of Nigeria, a faith based organisation.
The Acting Vice Chancellor and his management team, led the planting with the students of Bethany Christian Academy taking turns to plant the trees.
In their separate submission, Focal persons of the International Leadership Foundation, Engineer Lepan Tyoden and Larba Farral said the choice of Plateau State University, Bokkos is informed by a burning desire and passion to see the only state university grow above its peers.
