PLASU VC URGES WOULD BE CORPERS TO BRACE UP TO CHALLENGE OF NATION BUILDING.

The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Prof Matur Malau Bernard, has called on final year students of the university to imbibe the spirit of change and tolerance as they prepare to enter another phase of their lives which will come with challenges as they interact with people of different cultures and traditions.
Professor Matur was speaking during orientation ceremony for students of the University who will be proceeding for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme soon.
Matur, who was represented at the Orientation ceremony by the Deputy Dean, Directorate of Students Affairs, Dr. Samuel Abdullahi, made the call at a sensitization exercise, in the school, organized by the Directorate of Students Affairs for graduating students who are about to proceed for the one year mandatory NYSC exercise.
He said, the one year experience will give them the opportunity to integrate and interact with people of different cultures and ethnicities in the country, which is one of the main reasons for establishing the scheme.
The Vice Chancellor enjoined the students to be good ambassadors and representatives of the university during their service year, stressing that the university has trained them to be good in character and learning and be successful in life maintaining that the university will not be responsible for any misconduct during their service year and prayed for good job opportunities for them.

On his part, the resource person, Ali Sunday Awak, Assistant Director, Corps Deployment and Relocation, NYSC, Plateau State Branch, gave the reasons for the establishment of NYSC as a policy of government to reconcile, rehabilitate and reconstruct nigeria after the Nigeria civil war.

He said, that the NYSC one year service is for Prospective Corp Members below the age of 30 and mentioned some of the objectives of NYSC to include, raising the moral of Nigerian youth, development of attitude of mind acquired through shared experience and suitable training, and development of common tie and promotion of national unity amongst others. He said the event is aimed at preparing prospective corp members of life at the orientation camps and for the service year, pointing out that NYSC will not hesitate in demobilizing those who abscond for a certain period of time.

In their separate contributions, Kachalla Hamza, Certificate Officer, NYSC Plateau State Branch and Patience Emmanuel of the Directorate of Students Affairs, PLASU, said that, they are expected to be posted out of their states of origin and maintained that NYSC service year is to enable participants acquire the spirit of self-reliance and encouraged them to seek carrier opportunities wherever they are posted to serve.
