The Plateau State University, Bokkos in line with its vision and its commitment to effective coordination, streamlining, monitoring and Evaluation of Academic Standards and Academic Development processes of the University, established the Academic Planning Unit in 2010/2011 Academic Session. The Academic Planning Unit is under the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and serves as a focal point for liaison with the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the implementation of institutional and national policies on higher education as well as for quality control. The Unit thus ensures that the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (B-MAS) set for all degree programmes in Universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) is attained and maintained at all times in all programmes offered in the University.
The Academic Planning Unit is headed by a Director who is a professor with Academic Planning experience or a professional staff. He is directly responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the unit. The Unit assists and advises the Vice-Chancellor on matters relating to the academic planning of the University, including issues pertinent to staff development programmes.
He is appointed by the Vice-Chancellor and holds office at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Director is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor in respect of all matters relating to academic planning and projections of the University in line with the approved Academic Brief. The Director shall be a member of the Curriculum, Examination and other Senate Committees etc.
Academic Planning unit is presently guarded under the leadership of Prof. Bulus N. Gyang, a professor of Physics.
